Most schools for students in kindergarten through high school (K-12) have policies that prohibit students from leaving the school grounds or campus during school hours. If students do need to leave the campus they will usually be required to be picked up by an adult (age 18 or older) who is on the student’s emergency contact list and who shows identification at the time of pickup.
For a doctor or dentist appointment schools may require a note from the health care provider for the student’s absence to be excused.
In Kentucky, as in many states, K-12 schools typically have policies in place that prevent students from leaving school grounds during school hours without proper authorization. These policies are designed to ensure the safety and accountability of students while they are under the school's supervision. If a student needs to leave campus for any reason, such as a medical appointment, they are generally required to be signed out by an adult who is listed on the student's emergency contact list. This adult must be at least 18 years old and provide identification upon pickup. Additionally, to have the absence excused for medical reasons, schools may require a note from the attending healthcare provider. These policies are usually outlined in the student handbooks of individual school districts and are enforced to maintain a secure educational environment.
