Most states have laws against aiding a suicide or assisted suicide. These laws are usually found in the state’s statutes, and sometimes in the state’s court opinions or case law (common law). The severity level of these crimes range from misdemeanors to felonies.
In Idaho, assisted suicide is illegal and considered a felony under the state's statutes. According to Idaho Code § 18-4017, it is a crime to assist another person in taking their own life. This law makes it clear that any person who deliberately aids or solicits another to commit suicide, or who provides the physical means by which another person commits or attempts to commit suicide, is guilty of a felony. The punishment for this offense can include imprisonment and fines, reflecting the serious nature of the crime. Idaho does not have a Death with Dignity Act or similar legislation that allows for physician-assisted suicide, which is legal in some other states under strict regulations. Therefore, any form of assistance in the act of suicide is strictly prohibited by Idaho law.
