The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) seeks to protect consumers and competition by preventing anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices through law enforcement, advocacy, and education.
The FTC is the only federal agency with both consumer protection and competition jurisdiction in broad sectors of the economy. The FTC pursues vigorous and effective law enforcement; advances consumers’ interests by sharing its expertise with federal and state legislatures and U.S. and international government agencies; develops policy and research tools through hearings, workshops, and conferences; and creates practical and plain-language educational programs for consumers and businesses in a global marketplace with constantly changing technologies. FTC’s work is performed by the Bureaus of Consumer Protection, Competition, and Economics. That work is aided by the Office of General Counsel and seven regional offices.
In New Hampshire (NH), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforces federal consumer protection and antitrust laws to prevent unfair, deceptive, or anticompetitive business practices. The FTC's jurisdiction covers a wide range of economic sectors and it operates through various bureaus including Consumer Protection, Competition, and Economics. The agency's efforts in NH are consistent with its national activities, which include law enforcement actions against companies violating these laws, advocacy work, and providing educational resources to both consumers and businesses. The FTC also collaborates with state legislatures and agencies to align federal and state efforts in protecting the marketplace. While the FTC operates at the federal level, NH businesses and consumers are subject to its regulations and can benefit from the protections it offers. Additionally, the FTC's regional offices may assist in addressing local issues related to its mandate.
