Courts that oversee bankruptcy filings are part of the federal court system, and are generally referred to as U.S. Bankruptcy Courts.
In Utah, as in all states, bankruptcy filings are handled by the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, which are specialized courts within the federal judiciary system. These courts are exclusively responsible for handling bankruptcy cases under the authority granted by the United States Constitution and federal law, specifically Title 11 of the United States Code, also known as the Bankruptcy Code. The state of Utah has one bankruptcy court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah, which has jurisdiction over all bankruptcy cases filed by residents or entities located within the state. This court follows the rules and procedures set forth in the Bankruptcy Code, as well as the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, to ensure fair and consistent handling of bankruptcy matters.
