Article 225 - Services For Persons With Disabilities

(60 ILCS 1/225-5) Sec. 225-5. Township committee on persons with disabilities. (a) The township board may appoint a township committee on persons with disabilities, comprised of not more than 10 members, one of whom shall be a township trustee appointed by the chairman of the township board. A majority of the committee shall consist of persons with disabilities. The initial members shall serve their terms as follows: 3 members for 1 year, 3 members for 2 years, and 3 members for 3 years. Succeeding members shall serve 3-year terms. The initial and succeeding trustee members shall serve 3-year terms or until termination of their service as township trustees, whichever occurs first. (b) Members of the committee shall select one of their number to serve as chairman and may select other officers deemed necessary. (c) Members of the committee shall serve without compensation but shall be allowed necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties under this Section. (d) The committee shall cooperate with any appropriate public or private entity to develop and administer programs designed to enhance the self-sufficiency and quality of life of citizens with disabilities residing within the jurisdiction of the township. (e) The committee may receive any available monies from private sources. The township board may provide funding from the township general fund. The township board may establish and administer a separate fund for the committee on persons with disabilities and shall authorize all committee expenditures from that fund. (f) The committee may enter into service agreements or contracts for the purpose of providing needed or required services or make grants to another governmental entity, not-for-profit corporation, or community service agency to fund programs for persons with disabilities, subject to the approval of the township board. (g) The committee shall report monthly to the township board on its activities and operation. (h) For purposes of this Section, "persons with disabilities" means any persons with a physical or developmental disability. (Source: P.A. 99-143, eff. 7-27-15.)
