§ 8-27-602. Committee for preparation of insurance contract -- Approval -- Modifications.

(a) In municipal corporations and special school districts desiring to provide such insurance coverage for employees and officials, the aldermen or other governing body of the municipal corporation or special school district shall appoint a committee of aldermen or other governing body of the municipal corporation or special school district to carry out the intent of this part.

(b) Such committee shall prepare and present for approval a contract or contracts with one (1) or more insurance companies, or other corporations which may exist under title 56, chapter 27, 28 or 29 authorized to do business in the state of Tennessee, or with one (1) or more insurance trusts which have contracted with an insurance company or companies or corporations as set out above authorized to do business in this state for a policy or policies of group insurance to provide for the payment of group life, hospitalization, disability, or medical expenses for municipal corporation or special school district employees and officials. Such approval shall be by a majority vote of the aldermen or other governing body of municipal corporation or special school district, and shall be executed in the name of the municipal corporation or special school district by the mayor or chief executive officer of such municipal corporation or special school district.

(c) Such contracts may from time to time be amended, modified, or changed by a majority vote of the aldermen or other governing body of the municipal corporation or special school district.

(d) The policy or policies shall conform to the standard provisions of group insurance policies as set forth in this code.
