§ 49-1-312. Standards recommendation committee -- English language arts and mathematics -- Confirmation of appointments.

(a) There is created a standards recommendation committee. The committee shall be composed of ten (10) members. The governor shall appoint four (4) members, the speaker of the senate shall appoint three (3) members, and the speaker of the house of representatives shall appoint three (3) members. The standards recommendation committee shall review and evaluate the recommendations of the two (2) standards review and development committees and post the recommendations to the web site created pursuant to § 49-1-311(a)(3) for the purpose of gathering additional feedback from the public. The standards recommendation committee shall make the final recommendations as to the new set of standards to the state board, which shall adopt sets of standards in English language arts and mathematics that fit the needs of Tennessee students in kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12).

(b) All appointments made pursuant to subsection (a) for the standards recommendation committee shall be subject to confirmation by the senate and the house of representatives, but appointments shall be effective until adversely acted upon by the senate and the house of representatives.
