§ 45-21-8.1. Exclusion of elected city, town council or other elected members. Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter or any provision of the general or public laws to the contrary, no city or town council member, school committee members or other local elected officials, other than elected officials who are compensated for devoting thirty-five (35) or more hours per week to their elected position, elected for the first time after June 30, 2012, shall be allowed membership into the municipal employees' retirement system, as a result of that elective service.
