Sec. 22.

If the board of supervisors of the county by a majority vote of all the members elected to and serving resolve to contract indebtedness or issue bonds to raise money for the construction and maintenance of county roads, the question shall be submitted to a vote of the electors of the county at a general or a special election called for that purpose. Notice of the submission of the resolution to a vote of the electors and, in case a special election is called, notice of the calling of the special election shall be given in the same manner and for the same length of time as provided by law. If a majority of the electors voting on the resolution vote in favor of the resolution, it shall be considered to have carried. The manner of stating the question upon the ballots shall be prescribed by the resolution of the board of supervisors. All money raised by the board of supervisors for the construction and maintenance of county roads shall be expended under the direction of the board of county road commissioners. Contract indebtedness incurred or bonds issued under this act are subject to the revised municipal finance act, 2001 PA 34, MCL 141.2101 to 141.2821.
