§18322. Board membership
1. Membership; terms; removal. The board consists of 9 members appointed by the Governor as follows:
A. Five dentists. Each dentist member must hold a valid dental license under this chapter and must have been in the actual practice of dentistry in this State for at least 10 years immediately preceding appointment. A dentist is not eligible to serve as a member of the board while employing a dental hygienist or a denturist who is a member of the board; [PL 2015, c. 429, §21 (NEW).]
B. Two dental hygienists. Each dental hygienist member must hold a valid dental hygiene license under this chapter and must have practiced in the State for at least 6 years immediately preceding appointment. A dental hygienist is not eligible to serve as a member of the board while employed by a dentist who is a member of the board; [PL 2015, c. 429, §21 (NEW).]
C. One denturist. The denturist member must hold a valid denturist license under this chapter and must have practiced in the State for at least 6 years immediately preceding appointment. D. One public member. The public member must be a person who has no financial interest in the dental profession and has never been licensed, certified or given a permit in this or any other state for the dental profession. [PL 2015, c. 429, §21 (NEW).]
The Governor may accept nominations from professional associations and from other organizations and individuals. A member of the board must be a legal resident of the State. A person who has been convicted of a violation of the provisions of this Act or any prior dental practice act, or who has been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year's imprisonment, is not eligible for appointment to the board. Appointments of members must comply with Title 10, section 8009.

2. Terms. Terms of the members of the board are for 5 years. A person who has served 10 years or more on a dental examining board in this State is not eligible for appointment to the board. A member may be removed by the Governor for cause.

3. Quorum; chair; vice-chair. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a majority of the members serving on the board constitutes a quorum. The board shall elect its chair and vice-chair annually.
