72-1136. Treasurer; appointment and duties; surety bond required. (a) The board of education of each school district shall appoint a treasurer, who shall serve at the pleasure of the board. The treasurer shall receive compensation fixed by the board. The treasurer shall not be a member of the board and shall not be the same person as the superintendent of schools or the clerk. Before entering upon the discharge of his duties, the treasurer shall furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount fixed by the board. Such bond shall be subject to approval by the board and shall be paid for by it.

(b) The treasurer shall deposit all moneys of the school district in accordance with the provisions of chapter 9, article 14, of Kansas Statutes Annotated. Each month the treasurer shall prepare a written report of the finances of the school district, and shall prepare such other reports as are required by the board or by law.
