(5 ILCS 170/1) (from Ch. 116, par. 35) Sec. 1. The term "public officer" means any officer of the Executive Department of the State government, the Clerk of the Supreme Court, all officers created by "The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois", approved March 7, 1917, as amended, and all other officers, boards, commissions and agencies of the State government. (5 ILCS 170/2) (from Ch. 116, par. 36) Sec. 2. Any public officer of the state may cause any or all records, papers or documents made or kept by him to be photographed, microphotographed or reproduced on film or by other processes which accurately reproduce or form a durable medium for reproducing the original. The reproduction of records by any photographic, microphotographic or silver halide processes, when such reproductions are to serve as permanent records, shall comply with the regulations and standards of the State Records Commission. Other durable media using machine readable techniques may be used as an alternative to film, provided the medium is non-erasable and cannot be altered once the original document has been recorded. (5 ILCS 170/3) (from Ch. 116, par. 37) Sec. 3. Such photographs, microphotographs, photographic film or the result of any other process authorized by Section 2 shall be deemed to be an original record for all purposes, including introduction in evidence in all courts or administrative agencies. A transcript, exemplification or certified copy thereof shall, for all purposes recited herein, be deemed to be a transcript, exemplification, or certified copy of the original. (5 ILCS 170/4) (from Ch. 116, par. 38) Sec. 4. Whenever such photographs, microphotographs, reproductions on film or the result of any other process authorized by Section 2 shall be placed in conveniently accessible files and provisions made for preserving, examining and using the same, any such public officer may, with the approval of the State Records Commission, cause the original records from which the photographs or microphotographs or other permanent record have been made or any part thereof to be disposed of according to methods prescribed by law.
