(a) The Commissioner of Early Childhood is authorized to take advantage of any federal statutes and regulations relating to child care services, as described in section 19a-77, and shall have the power to administer any federally assisted child care program in the event that such federal statutes or regulations require that such federally assisted program be administered by a single state agency.

(b) The Commissioner of Early Childhood is authorized to take advantage of Title V of Public Law 88-452, entitled “Economic Opportunity Act of 1964”, with respect to providing work training, aid and assistance to persons eligible for state-administered general assistance or public assistance, and to administer the same in such manner as is required for the receipt of federal funds therefor.

History: 1967 acts created section in present form by designating Subsec. (h) (originally Subsec. (b) of Sec. 17-12b) as Subsec. (a) and making subsection added in second act Subsec. (b); P.A. 75-420 replaced welfare commissioner with commissioner of social services; P.A. 77-614 replaced social services commissioner with commissioner of human resources, effective January 1, 1979; Sec. 17-12b transferred to Sec. 17-31f in 1979; Sec. 17-31f transferred to Sec. 17-575 in 1991; P.A. 93-262 authorized substitution of commissioner and department of social services for commissioner and department of human resources, effective July 1, 1993; Sec. 17-575 transferred to Sec. 17b-730 in 1995; P.A. 04-76 amended Subsec. (b) by replacing reference to “general assistance” with reference to “state-administered general assistance”; P.A. 14-39 replaced references to Commissioner of Social Services with references to Commissioner of Early Childhood and made technical changes, effective July 1, 2014; pursuant to P.A. 15-227, “child day care program” was changed editorially by the Revisors to “child care program” in Subsec. (a), effective July 1, 2015; P.A. 16-163 amended Subsec. (a) by replacing “child day care” with “child care services, as described in section 19a-77,”, effective June 9, 2016.
