§ 6-16-121. African-American history -- Teaching materials

(a)

(1) The Commissioner of Education shall update the materials and resources for the teaching of historical contributions made by African-Americans in the United States and in other countries prior to the establishment of the United States for inclusion in the appropriate curricula of all kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12) of all public schools in the State of Arkansas.

(2) Emphasis shall be placed on the historic work of American civil rights leaders, including without limitation Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his pursuit of justice in civil society.

(3)

(A) The requirement under this subsection shall be taught in conjunction with corresponding state and federal holidays.

(B) Nothing in subdivision (a)(3)(A) of this section shall be construed to limit the teaching of this history only to the corresponding state and federal holidays.

(b) The commissioner shall ensure that these materials or units are reproduced and sent to all school districts in the state.
