In some states, a domestic partnership is a legally recognized relationship between members of a same-sex couple, with rights similar to those of a marriage relationship.
As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, Indiana does not legally recognize domestic partnerships for same-sex couples or provide a statewide legal status similar to marriage for such partnerships. Indiana law does not offer the same rights and benefits to domestic partners as it does to married couples. Same-sex marriage, however, has been legal in Indiana since October 2014 following the decision in Baskin v. Bogan, which means that same-sex couples can choose to marry and thereby obtain the same legal rights and benefits as opposite-sex married couples under state and federal law. Some municipalities within Indiana may have ordinances that provide certain benefits to domestic partners, but these are not statewide and vary in scope and recognition.
